If we haven’t met yet, I’m Sue Sheppard. I have been selling shoes to transgender women and cross-dressers for nearly 30 years. Over the years, the search for the perfect fit has been difficult. At one point, I accidentally called a male footwear designer named WJ Brookes and Sons, a bespoke gentleman’s manufacturer based in Earls Barton, Northampton. This serendipitous contact inspired its owner, Steve Patemen, to create Divine Footwear, known for its signature red thigh-high boots. Steve’s story, for those who are unaware, became the basis for the movie “Kinky Boots” and the subsequent Broadway hit musical of the same name.
